In recent years many social issues related to memory loss and Alzheimer's disease have emerged in Japan.
The Yomiuri Shimbun carried a story regarding the suppression of memory loss in their newspaper.
The following article was posted in the 19.07.2007 edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.
[Prevention of Memory Loss]
A Japanese professor at the Ota Medical School conducted an animal study which proved that hydrogen water prevents memory loss (cognitive functions) as well as preventing and healing Alzheimer's disease. Based on the related topic, which was covered in the electronic version of Neuropsychology Humacao magazine, the study showed that memory loss is caused by stress. To prove the beneficial effects of hydrogen water, the research team placed a group of mice in a small confined space, and deprived them of food so as to increase stress over time. Then, the research team divided the test mice into two groups, one of which was given "hydrogen water" and the other "non-oxygenated water" in order to observe the differences. After testing ten mice with three different methods for six weeks, the test results showed that the mice which drank the hydrogen water did not suffer from any memory loss, that they were functioning well, and that the reproductive activity of the neural stem cells in the part of the brain that controls the memory (hippocampal fissure) was as active as in these mice as it was in those that did not suffer from any stress. Last year, the research team also proved that active oxygen can be eliminated with hydrogen water, and that it lessens the damage caused by a brain stroke. Alzheimer's disease, which is caused by active oxygen, is considered a neurodegenerative disease, but Professor Ota proved the following: "The brains of the mice that did not drink the hydrogen water accumulated disease-causing agents in their brains, which were generated by active oxygen. However, the consumption of hydrogen water significantly enhanced their nerve cells’ reproduction activities. As such, Professor Ota believes that hydrogen water prevents memory loss."
