Disinfectant from Seems Bionics’ Vi-trap kills COVID-19 in 30 seconds

Seems Bionics, a specialized manufacturer of water-related-products, located in Suwon Deltaplex, revealed that through experiments, 99.9% of COVID-19 was killed within 30 seconds after the use of its slightly acidic hypochlorous acid water generator (also known as a Vi-trap). On June 3, a formal test report (KR-2004-006-SBN02) was received from KB Biotech (BLS3 No. KCDC-09-3-01). An official at Seems Bionics said that the verified Vi-trap, Vi-trap liquid, and quarantine gates will be commercially available in South Korea.

Seems Bionics has developed its Vi-trap through joint research with the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Tokyo University and has been exporting the machine to Japan since 2017. Seventeen patents related to electrolyzer technologies and non-contact adaptive sensors have been applied for. The company has also completed USFDA certified medical device registration (3009494615) and the verification of the sterilizing power against norovirus, enterovirus, influenza A, and streptococcus pneumoniae, among others. The Vi-trap was released in June 2019 and has secured safety data for COVID-19 sterilization affects tests, skin irritation and corrosion tests, and acute oral toxicity tests. The United States FDA and the Japan Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare have approved hypochlorous acid (HOCl) as a safe disinfectant. It has a higher sterilizing power than alcohol for disinfection and can produce 80-100 times more effectively than bleach (sodium hypochlorite).

When generating hypochlorous acid, it is most important to maintain a stable pH (5-6.5) and concentration (10-80 ppm). The slightly acidic hypochlorous acid itself is harmless to the human body, but special care must be taken when using harmful additives, since harmful components can damage the human body.

The company donated a Vi-trap to the city of Daegu as well as to Goyang Disabled Center, Dangjin St. Mary’s Hospital, Suwon Yeongtong-gu Office, and Suwon Deltaplex Management Office, and these donations were worth a total of over 10 million Korean won. Seems Bionics recently signed a business agreement with Daegu Samsung Lions Park. "We hope that everyone who is suffering from the effects of COVID-19 can help fight it in Korea and around the world," said Yin Shin-gyo, CEO of Seems Bionics.
